Sense over Sectarianism & Balfron High School
The Sense over Sectarianism Education Development Officer, Mark Adams, was recently invited to deliver a CPD twilight session at Balfron High School by Kenny Davidson the lead coordinator for the school’s PHSE curriculum.
Kenny and other members of his team had attended the recent Education Scotland Resource launch event at Stirling and had highlighted the “Scarfed for Life” resource as one which would be a valuable addition to meet the needs of the young people of Balfron.
The significance of delivering a first CPD session for teaching staff in Stirlingshire was highlighted as often the issue of Sectarianism is wrongly regarded as a Glasgow or West Coast issue. Balfron is rural town which despite geographically being in Stirlingshire is only 17 miles north of Glasgow and indeed has a Glasgow postal code.
Kenny and his team have decided to include the Scarfed for Life resource in the school’s S3 timetable as they help to educate and prepare the young people to understand important issues around prejudice and discrimination and how these behaviours can affect them and others around them.
Sense over Sectarianism offer a range of CPD services to support the delivery of a variety of Tackling Sectarianism resources for various ages and stages. These CPD sessions are available across the country.
