Sense Over Sectarianism and Glasgow University

In a continuation of the newly formed partnership between Sense over Sectarianism (SOS) and Glasgow University, SOS Development Officer delivered a 2 hour lecture in the world famous Bute Hall on Thursday 23rd March.

The lecture was attended by some 300 PGDE students who next academic year will embark on their probationer teaching and learning year in Primary and Secondary schools across the country.

The theme of Health and Well Being features heavily in the relationship between the Experiences and Outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence and the work that SOS deliver in schools and across communities.

Head of the Health and Wellbeing agenda at Glasgow University, Mark Breslin, invited SOS in to deliver the talk and activities involved and was delighted with the outcome and the reaction of the students.

On his evaluation form Mark commented “The speaker had such a vast in-depth subject knowledge where he continually made reference to historical facts related to bigotry and sectarianism, this made the lecture very engaging and interesting.”

The reaction from the students was very encouraging too. PGDE student Alison Carratt took the time to email Mark from SOS after the lecture “Thank you for today's lecture. I would say it has been the best and most relevent Health and Wellbeing lecture we have had this year. Was very interesting and informative! Started a very interesting discussion with my family at dinner tonight.”

The partnership can only now go on from strength to strength as we prepare our future practitioners to participate in our work. Mark Breslin concluded “Very simple, this is a very interesting and relevant topic and I am looking forward to developing a strong partnership with Sense Over Sectarianism.”
