New Equality Forum launched
Central Scotland Regional Equality Council has recently launched Falkirk People’s Rights and Equality Group, which provides an opportunity for people living, working and studying in Falkirk to provide their views on how local services can be better tailored to their needs, and what can be done to improve the promotion of equality and the reporting of hate crime in the town.
The group met on Wednesday 9 November at Park Street Community Education Centre in Falkirk, and discussed issues such as what needs to be done to improve the reporting of hate crime, how the experience of hate crime victims can be enhanced when they are reporting such incidents and what the barriers to accessing local services are and what can be done to remove these barriers.
The group also received a presentation from PC Scott Robertson from Police Scotland on online hate crime and discussed Scottish Government consultations to which it would be relevant for members of the group to respond.
The next meeting of Falkirk People’s Rights and Equality Group will be taking place at Park Street Community Education Centre, Falkirk, FK1 1RE, on Wednesday 8 February 2016, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. To celebrate LGBT History Month in February, this meeting of the group will receive presentations from local organisations with an LGBT focus, including the Terrence Higgins Trust and Pink Saltire, who will speak about their plans for a Forth Valley wide event to celebrate LGBT History Month. The group remains open to membership and to anyone who would like to come along to provide their views on how life in Falkirk could be made to be fairer for everyone.
