Bridges & Barriers City Wide Project Concludes
Bridges & Barriers project concluded successfully at the end of March with a Football Festival at Super Soccer, Glasgow. 83 pupils attended and along with teachers, NK staff and Active Schools were video interviewed by Lisa Gallacher from Youthlink Scotland which will help us create our B&B promotional video.
The project saw our target of 16 partnership slots filled with 10 newly created in areas the project had never been to before. Attendance for sessions was 197 pupils with 89 delivery hours and the project increased its girl participants from 8% at the start to a high of 40% by the end. This was an important target we set with Active Schools to achieve a more balanced school demographic.
The school partnerships from 10 Electoral Ward areas out of a possible 23 in Glasgow were: St Charles & Dunard; Highpark & St Cuthberts; St Marys/Parkview/Caldercuilt/St Blanes x2; Bankhead & Corpus Christi; St Rochs & Royston; Whiteinch & St Paul’s; Golfhill & St Denis; Riverside & St Saviours; St Patricks & Anderston; Avenue End & St Rose of Lima; St Josephs & Oakgrove; Our Lady of Peace & Sandaig; St Teresa’s & Saracen; and St Francis of Assisi & Mount Vernon.
We have successfully developed trust and communication with the Glasgow Active Schools (AS) team (NW, NE & S) which is the main reason for the project achieving a city-wide approach. These new schools and AS Coordinators have never worked with us before and have been getting to know us and the project as it progressed.
We thank them for their great efforts and can look forward to more support to help us expand the project with future funding from the Scottish Government this year.
