Archives and Activism: Women's Creative Responses to Prejudice
Historical and contemporary feminist, lesbian and black art activism invites us to question inequality and incite social change.
The Glasgow Women’s Library In Her Shoes project continues to explore women’s creative responses to racist, ableist and homophobic discrimination and prejudice using posters, zines and artworks from our unique museum and archive collections.
At hands-on creative sessions, LGBTQ and BME women and women with disabilities have been taking direct inspiration from the interventions of women writers, artists and activists in response to prejudice and hate.
Responding to archive items from the Lesbian Avengers and BlackOUT collective, and artists like Claude Cahun and Zoe Leonard, women at In Her Shoes workshops have been using activist art methods to produce artistic and creative responses to their own experiences, addressing their need and desire to challenge hate, and envisioning the future.
On Wednesday 29th March, our In Her Shoes: Gender and Prejudice event will showcase this work alongside contributions from women engaged in academic research on targeted hostility and prejudice.
