European Football Comes to Barrhead

A Europe wide campaign to banish bigotry from football comes to Barrhead this week.

On Tuesday 16th October fans of junior football clubs from across the West of Scotland will gather at Arthurlie Inns for an event to mark ‘Football People’ fortnight in Scotland.

Football People’ is organised by Football Against Racism Europe (FARE) to promote diversity and inclusion as well as challenge prejudice in the game. Every year the UEFA-backed network funds activities across the continent which help promote inclusion in the game. From 11-25th October

tens of thousands of people take part in ‘Football People’ activity across more than 30 countries.

The event is being co-sponsored by Nil by Mouth and will feature a special panel of figures from the world of Scottish football for an evening of discussion and reflection on how the sport can be used as a force for good in society. In a special twist the panel are being asked to bring with them three items which remind them of their love of the game.

The event will be compared by Robert Burns, host of Pulse FM’s hugely popular Junior Football show and panellists includes player and pundit Michelle Evans and sportswriter Stewart Weir.

Nil by Mouth Director Dave Scott said:
‘Junior football is a hugely important part of life in Scotland with the clubs involved being at the very core of their communities. We want to use this event to celebrate the positives of Scottish football and are delighted that the event will be part of the Europe wide ‘Football People’ campaign which seeks to harness the power of the sport for good. Robert has arranged a fantastic panel of speakers and it’ll be an evening of lively debate and nostalgia as we remind ourselves why football really is ‘The Beautiful Game’.’

The event Kick Off is 7pm at the Arthurlie Inns, 3 Main Street, Barrhead, G78 1RE
